Jason Ho's cool take on Boba Fett.

The story of the Silsbee cheerleader is one of the saddest and most depressing things you will hear this year.

A few years ago she went to a party where a basketball player, Rakheem Bolton, raped her. Bolton was a very good basketball player so instead of rape charges he was charged, and pled guilty, to misdemeanor assault. Then in a move that I find horrifying, his school allowed him to continue playing basketball. Because high school sports are very important to Silsbee ISD.

The cheerleader, being a cheerleader at a school that lets rapists/violent dudes continue to play was told to cheer for him at games. She declined because enthusiastically saying things like “stick it in!” to a terrible rapist is pretty damned appalling. The school, showing another moment of rationality, promptly kicked HER off the cheerleading squad.

So she sued. And lost. Then was told that in addition to paying her court fees she’d have to pay the school’s as well. To the tune of $45,000.

Way to kick a woman while she’s down US Supreme Court!

So it’s all very appalling, which is why it’s wonderful to hear about amazing men like Jason Ho. The illustrator and assistant editor at Bongo Comics is drawing and selling sketches with all the proceeds going to help pay the ex-cheerleader’s legal fees.

They’re pretty fantastic sketches with a bit of a Teen Titans vibe to them and you’ll be helping a woman who really needs it.
