  • Steve Jobs Has Passed

The man who gave us Pixar and Apple and the ubiquitous MP3 player has passed.

Steve Jobs was controversial and extraordinary.

I was a freshman in high school when he returned to Apple. I had one of the non-Jobs Powerbook 5300s that SNL made famous (they burst into flames) and his return was a breath of fresh air for a Mac-aficionado like me.

My father and I frequently bonded over our love of the man.

When a good friend passed away it was the admittedly shallow desire to play with the first generation iPod that finally cheered me up.

Many journalists I know today got into this business because of Jobs.

He wasn’t just an extraordinary businessman and a technological visionary; he was a cultural icon.

    And he will be missed.
