Guys, Paul Rudd is 40. PAUL RUDD. Remember when he made your heart pitter patter in Clueless? Or when he nearly went straight for Jennifer Anniston in that Will and Grace prequel (The Object of My Affection)? And now dude is 40! Time man. It is wacky.

This trailer for Judd Apatow’s newest movie? Less wacky. Still funny though. It follows the best characters for Knocked Up as they hit 40 and re-evaluate their lives.

I love what Apatow has been doing lately. He’s using his ample power as a producer to get very funny comedies made (and championing a lot of women writers and actors who wouldn’t be able to get films made otherwise) and in his own material he’s been taking a step back. Become more meditative and less about the gross out humor. I mean–there is still a whole mess of gross out stuff. Taints and aging vaginas are all up in that trailer and Paul Rudd (and by proxy Judd Apatow) continues to be traumatized by live birth, yet it doesn’t seem as manic?

More importantly it is Leslie Mann FINALLY getting to be the star of a movie. I’ve been waiting for this moment ever since George of the Jungle and I have unreasonably high expectations.

This Is 40 forces us to stare into the abyss of Paul Rudd’s anus December 25th.
