  • James Bond In The New Skyfall Trailer Is Accompanied By Ladies And Explosions

My parents were pre-teens and teens in the 60s and one of the things they bonded over when they started dating was they both loved to go to the theater all by themselves and watch James Bond films. Back then in north Texas it was an easy way to spend two hours and for a kid it also meant a little candy and air conditioning on a hot summer day and watching an incredibly suave Sean Connery roam around in an Aston Martin.

Their love of Bond was instilled in me at an early age to the point that he’s the only kind of misogynstic rapist I will ever give a pass to in film. But that doesn’t stop me from sighing while watching some of his films. And it also means I will totally fight to the death anyone who tells me I’m stupid for liking Tomorrow Never Dies the most. I mean it’s got Michelle Yeoh spending most of the movie telling Bond to go F himself and Pierce Brosnan as the kindest and most accessible Bond ever and JONATHAN PRYCE AND TERI HATCHER.

I had some serious flashbacks to that film watching this trailer for Skyfall. Once again there seems to be a kick ass female agent who hopefully won’t take any of Bond’s shit. And she’s played by Naomi Harris whom doesn’t get nearly enough work! Also any time I see a woman of color taking the lead as a “Bond girl” I squeal in delight…except for that time Halle Berry was running around in her Thunderball ripoff bikini putting diamonds in her bellybutton while Madonna vogued and sang about dying another day.

It helps that with the exception of Pussy Galore women of color seem to be the only ones who take none of Bond’s shit.

Well them and Judi Dench as M. Sam Mendes may be the first Bond director to realize he has JUDI DENCH as M and maybe he should give her more to do for her paycheck then just sashay in and give Bond the stink eye.

So the whole film is about some agents out to destroy M’s life and only her protege James Bond can help. And the trailer is a stunning showcase of action filmmaking. Between this and Mission Impossible 4 spies are on the rise.
