  • Awkward Black Girl’s Issa Rae Gets A Sitcom With Shonda Rhimes’ Help

Remember when Hollywood contacted Issa Rae and was like, “We really love your fantastic webseries Awkward Black Girl and want to turn it into a series and also we want to make the lead character a white woman and just call it Awkward Girl.”

And Issa Rae gave Hollywood the proverbial finger (okay she just said no thanks) and went back to writing, producing and starring in Awkward Black Girl and making it an utter delight.

She’s commented in the past on only really wanting to do a show if she could have the same sort of control she has of her webseries. And it looks like Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland production company is giving her that control.

    I’m stoked.

The new show I Hate La Dudes is about a woman coming into a popular male driven internet talk show. I am there on premiere night with bells guys.

And if you’ve missed out on Awkward Black Gir please now fix that problem. You really won’t be disappointed.
