Institutionalized Sexism Almost Center Stage In Byzantium Trailer

When the guy who made The Crying Game decides to do a movie about vampires even the most blood sucking fiend fatigued film lover has to stop and go “huh.”

Now the trailer for Byzantium is here and it is absolutely gorgeous. Neil Jordan seems to have created something very dreary and dreamy from Moira Buffini’s* script.

Perhaps the most exciting part isn’t even Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan rolling around rocking super long evil nails and sucking the blood from pretty guys for two centuries. It’s their conflict with Johnny Lee Miller and what appears to be vampirism’s long-standing sexist regime where men have power and women don’t.

Vampires, gender politics and really pretty cinematography? Buffini and Jordan you know the way to my heart.

*Buffini looks like Buffy. I feel for her when she has to do interviews.
