Rie Kugimiya is the voice behind some of anime’s most famous heroines and heroes. Seriously. She voices all three of the characters below and chances are even if you’ve never watched anime you’ve seen at least one of these peeps. Fullmetal Alchemist. He’s a teenage boy’s soul attached to a suit of armor by blood. His show is all about Japan coming to terms with the atrocities they committed in World War 2. It’s awesome. Her range is kind of ridiculous but when she took on three high-profile roles in the mid 2000s that all happened to be tsundere tropes she earned the nickname Queen of Tsundere and become an object of affection for dudes who love ladies that are violent because it hides their fragile hearts or something. In the video below she only plays one tsundere. But the real treat is just watching her switch from this deep powerful voice to sleepy school girl to plucky heroine. Complete with powerup yells and eating sound effects. You don’t need to understand Japanese to be in awe of that kind of artistry and if you manage to make it to the minute mark you’ll be seriously awed by how her face never changes. Just her voice. Source: reddit Elizabeth Freeman Thanks for highlighting such an amazing voice actress. The 1st character she does is Taiki from the AMAZING series Twelve Kingdoms. it’s full of wonderful, realistic and varied female characters and is based on a great book series that sadly only had a few novels brought to the States. Alex Cranz Oh I know. Twelve Kingdoms is one of my desert island shows. I didn’t know ANY of the novels had been translated though! Now I have to twaddle off and acquire them! Elizabeth Freeman Tokyopop translated the 1st three or 4 books before they went under. I managed to get most of them (save the final one they translated). I know they’re up on Amazon for a pretty penny. Matthias Kepplinger Amazing talent to be sure. I had a similar WTF-moment when I found out that the German voice of Bart Simpson is a woman. I never would have guessed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsjJea38dVU Dr. Block You do realize that the american version is also voiced by a woman, right?
