Re: Miley Cyrus Losing Her Damned Mind
By Alex Cranz
I don’t want to waste a lot of time or energy on this.
Because look, it was hilarious and appropriate that Miley Cyrus was singing a song about doing whatever she wants while cavorting around on stage doing whatever she wants.
But personally I prefer my artists attempting to be provocateurs and prolong their careers to be, you know, not incredibly racist. All her backup dancers were black, she used them all as props, and she was emulating a specific dance style and culture that came up specifically in the black community.
Like, I think one of her dancers even picked her up at one point okay?
She was literally maintaining her fame on the backs of black people.
She’s singing “it’s our party we can do what we want” and what she wanted is to pantomime rimming her black back up dancer (who was also tossing out candy what?) while slapping her ass?
If she were any more racist she would have gone to an after party catered by Paula Dean.
Only two good things came out of that (no not the Smith-Pinkett family reactions–because those were actually to Lady Gaga).
One) Rihanna’s reaction.
Two) This photo.
