Its perfectly in character for HG Wells to flee and for Myka to resist revealing her feelings. But after the epic lure the show built leading up to this it feels less like a continuation of a story and more like that time they got Carrie to come to prom just so they could dump pig’s blood on her.

Knee deep in summer movie releases this gem of an exchange came out between Scarlett Johansson and an interviewer who asked her, and only her, if there was any romance on the horizon for Black Widow in The Avengers. “She doesn’t have time for that,” Johansson crowed, “She’s got shit to avenge.” That’s exactly what [...]

Television usually falls into three categories for me. The good stuff I watch and think about, the good/bad stuff I write about and the stuff that is awful and it’s awfulness is so distracting I’ll watch it just to rage about it. Chicago Fire is none of those things. It’s not offensive to the writer [...]

The superhero genre requires its audience to take a massive leap of faith. It’s about people, in costumes, fighting crime. You have to suspend a little bit of belief because we all know what actual vigilantes look like. When a superhero property proudly embraces “realism” we have to suspend even more disbelief. There’s this hard fast rule that the only way a woman can appear in a military thriller is if she’s shoe horned in as a special JAG adjunct or something that is threatened with rape, is never as good as the men and usually beaten into submission by the bad guy before the climax or [...]

I both did, and did not, want to watch the pilot of CBS’s Elementary, which premiered last night at 10pm, but which has also been floating around the internet for a bit longer than that. The reasons for not wanting to watch it should be pretty obvious – the biggest being Stephen Moffat’s Sherlock starring [...]

It’s not easy to be a comedy pilot. You have to set up your premise and give us a hint of your show’s style and develop immediate chemistry amongst your cast and, most importantly, you have to be funny. It’s a tough set of standards that even some of the best comedies have failed to [...]

Revolution instantly won my respect when the plump and nervous former Google exec remarks on the event that sets the entire show into motion. “This should bother you. Physics went insane. The world went insane.” Yes. Yes it did. Thank you for acknowledging how absurd your premise is. Because if you know anything about science [...]

I recently told my sister that because I’ve been doing so much research for a project and because I’ve seen so much er and Grey’s Anatomy I could definitely do surgery. She said nothing but her eyes said “please never try to prove this theory on my body.” Whatever sister of mine because I was [...]
