Its perfectly in character for HG Wells to flee and for Myka to resist revealing her feelings. But after the epic lure the show built leading up to this it feels less like a continuation of a story and more like that time they got Carrie to come to prom just so they could dump pig’s blood on her.

There’s this interesting little note concerning Grey’s Anatomy: if you watch the premiere you will have all the tools you need to anticipate the finale each season. In the 9th season finale that idea the each premiere informs the finale has never been better illustrated.

To take the relationship from a simmering subtext to blatant main text is completely in line with the show’s mission to redefine fairytales and dole out happy endings like candy. Two ladies uniting in love for their son (and possibly each other yes please) is just a logical as hell next step.

Rhimes’ show is obsessed with these betrayals, the most fundamental of betrayals. Adultery is the most horrific of emotional crimes one can commit against another and she uses it to pry apart these characters and expose the roots of them.

So Regina flees and Snow weeps for the mother figure destroyed and her own innocence violated and it never rings quite true, because this show has, at some point, decided that making Snow White/Mary Margaret anything more than a foil for Regina and a wet blanket for Emma would be intolerable.
